Can You Say Cover Up?
State Attorney General Bill Lockyer, a Democrat, has abruptly shut down a grand jury investigating alleged misdeeds of Gray Davis' administration relating to a sweetheart deal given to Oracle Software: Offering no explanation for the move, Attorney General Bill Lockyer on Tuesday abruptly canceled a grand jury session exploring obstruction of justice allegations against the Davis administration in the Oracle Corp. software contract. Gee, that couldn't possibly be related to the fact both Lockyer and Davis are Democrats, could it? Likewise, it couldn't be related to the fact Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle, is a huge contributor to the Democratic Party, could it? Of course, this is from the Sacramento Bee, so they never even mention the party affiliation of either the Governor or the AG, nor Ellison's political leanings.

Can the attorney general do that against the grand jury's will? I thought they were supposed to be independent enough to pretty much decide what they will do.

If this is not the case, then we need some changes around here! Yeah, fat chance of that ever happening! The people having the power to investigate the government? Are you out of your mind?

In both county and state courts, the Attorney General or District Attorney have the power to convene grand juries, and dismiss those juries they have convened.

Just a thought: but when every statewide elected official in California is a Democrat, why would the Sacramento Bee waste words telling readers?

If you know who Governor Gray Davis is or you know who Attorney General Bill Lockyer is, it can be assumed that you know they are Democrats. Even if you *don't* know they're Democrats, it doesn't matter because there isn't any other party in town in Sacramento.
